Kristen Schiele holds a BA in Visual arts from Indiana University, a MFA from the American University in Washington DC, and has studied at the Universitat der Kunste Berlin. Her work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of art and the Museum of Modern Art. She has exhibited in the Torrence Art Museum, Corcoran Museum of art, PS1 Moma, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and has been reviewed in the New York Times, the Brooklyn Rail, Modern Painters among others.
Schiele's work is inspired by stage sets and has a deep connection to pattern design and 70s Technicolor cinema. The bright colors and patterns of her paintings create energy, space and psychological impact, while the figures are staged like actors in a play.
