Erik den Breejen was born in Berkeley, CA, where he studied at UC Santa Cruz and the California College of the Arts before relocating to New York in 2000. He received his MFA from Cornell University in 2006 and has since had numerous exhibitions in New York City and beyond. His work is in collections throughout the world, including a permanent two story mural of Atlantic Records' founder Ahemet Ertegun for the label's NYC headquarters.
Tomorrow Never Knows uses the lyrics to the Beatles song of the same name and repeats them three times in varying sizes of letters atop a backbeat of shifting hues. By grafting the words onto a new melody of intertwining oranges and blues, I liberate the lyrics from their original context and create new possibilities of reading and understanding them. I hope to keep the psychedelic spirit of this groundbreaking tune alive while expanding its parameters into a new medium.
