Kristen Schiele creates work in painting, scenic installations and collage. The works are inspired by stage sets, cinema, folklore, allegory, kitsch, and story telling that is psychologically dramatic and playful.
Schiele has lived and worked in both the Untied States and in Germany. She received a BFA from Indiana University and an MFA from American University and studied at the Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin, Germany. Exhibitions include a solo show at Freight and Volume Gallery in New York City, the Soap Factory in Minneapolis, Curators Without Borders Gallery in Berlin. Schiele has also exhibited in group shows at Cheim and Read in New York, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) in Oregon, the Torrence Art Museum in Los Angeles, the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington D.C., among others.
