Brooklyn Botanical is a playful composition infused with atmosphere, which aims at both equilibrium and open-endedness, revealing a sensitivity to objecthood enlivened by visual and intellectual curiosity. The texture of the duotone image, a photograph taken by Broughan in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, suggests both a sepia-toned photograph, and the static-electric fuzz of a photocopy.
